Training Course in Singapore|Fire Investigation

Professional Engineers Board (Singapore) had approved UTC as course organizer in professional training (PEB/APP/CO-00455).

This course is approved and subsidized by governmental agency, qualified for 14 PDUs by PEB (Professional Engineer Board), and PIC (40% cash payout) funding support.

Fires of vehicles, structural buildings and industrial facilities resulted in huge loss in economy and even fatality (human life loss). Fire investigation is the analysis of fire-related incidents to determine the fire origin(s), fire cause(s) and mechanisms, thus proper measures can be taken to prevent the recurrence of the similar incident(s). Fire investigation can provide solid fundation for the insurance claims and litigation issues.

Learning Objectives

Course Overview

Fires are very serious threat to public safety, which often caused a significant cost to society and danger to human lives.

This course is designed for attendants to understand the fundamentals of fires, their causes. The course will provide a basic introduction to fire science and present investigative field and laboratory methods for determining the origin and causes of different types of fires. Case studies will provide some brief investigation on different fires.

  • Course Instructor

    Dr George YU is Registered Chartered Engineer (UK), Member of National Association of Fire Investigators (USA), API 510 Pressure Vessel Inspector (USA), Executive Committee Member of The Institute of Materials (East Asia) and Technical assessor/expert of Singapore Accreditation Council. Dr YU has more than 35 years of relevant industrial work and research experience. As lead author, he published a number of technical papers in referred international journals and conferences. As Principal Investigator, he successfully completed more than 1000 projects on metallurgy related consultations, fire investigation, failure analysis, accident investigation and facility assessment/inspection, including damages of roller coasters, major MRT disruptions, accidents of cranes, aerospace engine damages, automotive steering system failure, lift rope breakage, landing gear system failure, hovercraft accidents, failures in gas and steam turbines, notebook computer burning, failures in jack-up rigs, great Singapore blackout, extra-hydrogen release of Submarine batteries, failures of PCB, PCBA, LCD & IC, heat exchanger burst, submarine power cable damages, transformer fire, explosion of power distribution system and switchgear, failures in building and structures etc. As expert witness, Dr YU was engaged in a number of litigation/court cases, including State Committee of Inquiry (COI) on major MRT disruptions and fatal crane accident in National Arts Gallery. He correctly determined root cause(s) of massive MRT disruptions on 7 July 2015, and his views were published in Top News of Straits Times on 30 July 2015.

    2. Can I get refund if the course is cancelled?
    UTC reserves the right to change or cancel any course, in light of unforeseen circumstances. Full refund is applicable in case of cancelation.

    3. Can I withdraw the registration?
    If you withdraw the registration two months before the course commencement, full refund is given.
    If your withdraw is made in 1-2 months before the course commencement, 50% refund will be applied.
    If the withdraw is made less than 1 month before the course commencement, no refund will be provided. Replacement is acceptable, given one week notice before course commencement.

    4. What are the terms and conditions for e2i subsidy?
    Eligibility for e2i subsidy: Professionals, managers and executives of Singaporean or PR with at least 75% attendance. Participants who do not fulfill the above criteria are not eligible for e2i funding, and are required to pay the course fee in full.

    5. What is PIC Grant?
    When the course fee paid by companies, they can enjoy 400% tax deductions/allowances and/or 60% cash payout for investment in innovation and productivity improvements under the Productivity and Innovation Credit (PIC) scheme.
