Training Course - Structural Analysis in Design and Accident Investigation

UTC is the training organiser accredited by Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), Professional Engineers Board (Singapore) and Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Continuing Professional Development Board. After attending UTC's accredited courses, fire safety managers (FSM), professional engineers (PE) and safety officers can be awarded CPD (FSM), PDU (PE) and SDU (SISO) for fulfilling their renewal requirements.
70% net course fee can be claimed in New Productivity Solutions Grant (Skills Future Training Subsidy).

UTC’s Experts and guest lecturers from industries with extensive experience provide lectures to public to share their knowledge and industrial experience.

structural analysis training course

This course is approved and subsidized by governmental agency through e2i, qualified for 13 Professional Development Units (PDU) by PEB (Professional Engineer Board), PIC (40% cash payout) funding support.

UTC had conducted a similar course for Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) (pending approval).

Learning Objectives

To enable participants to

  • Understand fundamentals of structures.
  • Understand the behaviours of structures under different loadings.
  • Learn classic structural analysis methods.
  • Understand the structural modelling.
  • Introduce numerical simulation using finite element analysis (FEA)
  • Apply the structural analysis knowledge in industrial practice.

Training Course Overview

Structural analysis plays an important role in product and building design as well as accident/failure investigation. The behavior of structural systems (including examples of buildings, aerospace structures, and mechanical systems) will be introduced, with an emphasis on modeling and approximating behavior. Effects of static loading, impact and vibration on structures/components will be discussed. Some examples will be presented to demonstrate the structural system being redesigned to improve performance and determine the root cause(s) of accident(s)/failures.

Training Course Content

  1. Introduction to Structural Engineering
  2. Analysis of different types of structural elements
  3. Static analysis and Dynamic analysis of structures
  4. Load calculations for Dead, Live, Earthquake & Wind
  5. Theory of vertical load resisting systems and horizontal load resisting systems
  6. Structural response to different types of moving loads
  7. Study of acceleration history graphs of earthquakes
  8. Introduction of numerical simulation using finite element analysis / method (FEA or FEM)
  9. Case studies
